Prior to undergoing any surgical procedures, there are some non-operative options for treating your knee pain that may be considered. They include the following:
- Lifestyle Modification. Weight loss, modification of exercise, and avoidance of aggravating activities can prevent further injury.
- Rehabilitation. Specifically prescribed exercises can improve strength and flexibility in the quadriceps and hamstring muscles.
- Anti-Inflammatory Medications. Decrease swelling in the joint, and provide temporary pain relief. Please note, however, that all medications have risks and should only be taken only in consultation with your pharmacist and doctor.
- Bracing. A sleeve like brace that fits firmly around the knee can provide support.
